Some of Lancashire’s best chefs have revealed their favourite restaurants in the run up to Chinese New Year celebrations.

Lancashire is home to a diverse culinary map, inspired by chefs and cooks inventing a fusion of global tastes combined with fresh local ingredients from across Lancashire.

A county brimming with a vast array of culinary delights, Lancashire is a place where you’re just as likely to find a pakora with a pie as your are egg with fried rice.

So what better place to go for advice than the county’s finest chefs themselves?

Lisa Goodwin-Allen, executive head chef at Northcote is the Lancashire-born lass who took over the reins of the Michelin starred restaurant in December 2017.

When it comes to good food, Lisa knows her stuff and there’s no place the busy mum would rather treat herself than a Chinese just a 10 minute drive from her home.

Shajan, located in the picturesque Ribble Valley was established in 1992 by Mr Ali.

Over the 25 years it has been in business the restaurant has expanded from 85 seats to 200 and has won the BCA best Indian restaurant in the North West twice in a row.

“If you really want a curry, this is absolutely the place you go to.

“I like places that are more relaxing and have different food to the style I’m used to cooking at Northcote. They have such fantastic flavour combinations, It’s a great place for all of the family,” said Lisa.

Another person who has a vast knowledge of food is Steven Smith, chef patron from Freemasons at Wiswelll, who admits he loves nothing more than a curry with friends.

His recommendation comes in the shape on Blackburn favourite, Bukhara.

The restaurant is described as a fine dining experience specialising in traditional tandoori curries, shish kebab, chicken tikka and biryani.

Speaking about the restaurant, Steven said: “Something of a hidden gem, Bukhara is a venue myself and all the chefs like to go to for a meet up.

“The food is authentic, fresh and given that it doesn’t serve alcohol, that gives you an indication of how good the food tastes because we go back time and time again!”

If you’re willing to go a little further afield and fancy a Mediterranean meal, Pulci Pizza in Poulton Le Fylde comes highly recommenced from the chefs, as does Greek restaurant Olive Tree.
