A MAN flew into a jealous rage when he saw a text from his girlfriend to her mother’s partner which ended with a kiss.

Blackburn magistrates heard Jake Darren Smith, 26, pushed his partner out of his flat and then shredded her £100 trainers and a £50 coat.

When police arrived on the scene they found other female clothing scattered around the apartment.

Smith, of Adelaide Terrace, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting Dayna Bennet and criminal damage to her property.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a 15-day rehablitation activity requirement, a four-month curfew between 8pm and 8am and ordered to pay £250 compensation and £35 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said when Smith read the text he accused Miss Bennet of cheating on him.

“He snatched her handbag and scattered the contents around the room before pushing her out of the property and onto the communal landing,” said Miss Akhtar.

“At that point she thought he was going to push her down the stairs.”

Richard Prew, defending, said his client regretted what had happened after he saw the message which the complainant claimed was totally innocent.

“Whatever the truth he took it the wrong way,” said Mr Prew.
