STARBUCKS is set to open a new coffee shop in a town centre this week.

The coffee giant will open its doors up for its grand opening in One Cathedral Square, Blackburn, at 10am on Friday (December 15).

Its opening means the flagship £34m Cathedral Quarter development is now complete, with all the retail units fully occupied.

The store will create around 10 jobs and will be open from 6am to 9pm.

Tom Jeremiah, senior planning manager at Euro Garages, said the new store would support ‘growth’ in the town centre.

Blackburn-based Euro Garages have taken lease of the unit to open the Starbucks.

As a nationwide franchisee of the brand, it has a long-standing partnership operating Starbucks coffee shops across a large number of Euro Garages sites.

He said: “One Cathedral Square’s proximity to the railway station, town centre offices and Premier Inn makes it an ideal location for a food-to-go outlet like Starbucks. This is an excellent opportunity to provide more choice within the development for commuters, shoppers and visitors to Blackburn.

“A lot of regeneration and investment has taken place in the town over the past few years. The council is sending a clear message that Blackburn is a place to invest in and we’re confident that our proposals in the town centre will support that growth.”

The coffee giant said on Facebook: “Come and join us for the grand opening of the Starbucks Cathedral store.

“This new store is coming to Blackburn’s new Cathedral Quarter at the heart of Blackburn town centre.

“We invite you to come and join the celebrations and enjoy a warm drink and slice of cake.

“We look forward to seeing you all.”

Borough regeneration boss Cllr Phil Riley said the Starbucks will be a ‘great addition’ to the Cathedral Square development.

He said: “The Starbucks will open on Friday and will complete the Cathedral Square development.

“It’s a great addition to everything that will be going on in the square and will be in a brilliant location, across from the train station.

“ We hope it will be well received.

“The development itself is a great piece of visionary work.

“It will completely change visitors and resident’s perception of the town.

“The completion of the square development is critical to the sense that the town is changing and changing for the better.”

The store is next to Italian restaurant A Mano.
