TRAIN operators across the North are working together to help people get to shops and markets in the run-up to Christmas.

Northern, Transpennine Express and Network Rail are working in partnership to ensure towns and cities receive the 'best possible service' during the build up to Christmas and 'boost' the economy of the North.

A new half hourly train service operating between Blackburn and Manchester will begin on December 10 and will call at Blackburn, Darwen, Bromley Cross, Hall I' th' Wood, Bolton, Salford Crescent and Salford Central, before arriving in Manchester.

The new route will run at 33 past the hour from Blackburn and 28 past the hour from Manchester Victoria, Monday to Saturday, between 9.30am and 5.30pm.

Martin Frobisher, managing director for Network Rail’s London North Western route business, said: “Tens of thousands of customers in the north are seeing their rail journeys transformed by the Great North Rail Project. This is happening right now and it’s incredibly exciting.

“Access to major cities for Christmas trade is already easier for thousands of passengers and with many more rail projects reaching fruition in 2018 customers can look forward to even better journeys which will boost the economy across the North."
