A 30-YEAR-OLD man who couldn't understand why police had turned up at his home in the middle of the night ended up being arrested when he lost his temper.

Blackburn magistrates heard Scott Ashley Fitton tried to slam the door on the officers but only succeeded in trapping a female officer's foot against the frame.

Fitton, of Suffolk Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and resisting a police officer. He was fined £80 with £30 victim surcharge.

The court heard officers were sent to the defendant address at 4 am after reports of a noise nuisance. The defendant answered the door wearing only his boxer shorts. After a brief discussion the officers left but then heard Fitton shouting upstairs at his partner.

"They went back and he wasn't happy about that," said Tracey Yates, prosecuting. "He started shouting and swearing at the officers and was eventually arrested."

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client didn't know why the police had turned up in the first place.

"He told the officers nobody was distressed and suggested they left," said Mr Taylor.
