A MAN has been arrested after a woman was left for dead after being beaten and sexually assaulted.
The victim, 33, was approached from behind and suffered serious injuries, including a fractured jaw, a number of lost teeth and bleed on the brain, in the attack off George Street West in Blackburn.
The incident took place between 8.10pm and 8.20pm on Saturday.
The 22-year-old, from Blackburn, was arrested at an address in the town this morning on suspicion of rape and wounding with intent and is in custody.
The victim remains in hospital undergoing treatment.
A police spokesman said: "We would like to thank the community for their help and co-operation up to this stage of our enquiries."
