A 22-YEAR-OLD man living in supported accommodation armed himself with a knife during a dispute with the father of another resident.

Blackburn magistrates heard Kyle McLoughlin waved the knife in the older man's face after earlier sending him a message that he was going to kill him.

McLoughlin, of Clement Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting David Reed and possession of a knife in a public place.

He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months with a requirement he completes 20 rehabilitation activity days.

He was also excluded from Signal House, Pickup Street, Accrington, where the incident took place for four months.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said McLoughlin had made threats towards the other resident earlier in the day and that man's father had been told about the threats.

"There was some kind of confrontation before the defendant went inside and came out armed with a knife," said Miss Allan. "He waved the knife in the other man's face and he said he was scared his face was going to get cut."

Gareth Price, defending, said there had been an exchange via XBox live and the other resident which was related to his father.

"When they had a chance meeting the older man began the argument," said Mr Price. "My client accepts his reaction was disproportionate."
