POLICE have renewed their appeal after five men suffered injuries after their car hit a lamppost in Blackburn.

As reported in yesterday's Lancashire Telegraph officers were called to Whalley New Road at 1am yesterday after a silver Renault Megane, travelling down St James' Road, crashed into a lamppost and wall.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man from Blackburn, suffered chest and facial injuries, a 19-year-old man, also from the town, suffered a broken leg, a broken arm and a head injury.

Three other passengers walked away with minor injuries, with a 19-year-old from Blackburn, suffered injuries to his head and hand.

The road was closed for close to three hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

Acting sergeant Lee Campbell said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Blackburn.

"A car has collided with a building leaving three men injured.

"We are urging anyone who saw what happened and has yet to speak to us to contact police."
