NEARLY every Mercedes diesel driver in East Lancashire is to be asked to return their car amid concerns over toxic emissions.

The ‘voluntary recall’ covers nearly all diesel Mercedes-Benz cars registered in the UK and Europe over the last six years.

German car giant Daimler is urging drivers to take their cars into the local garage to have a ‘software update’ installed.

The aim is to cut emissions of toxic nitrogen oxides, which are linked to respiratory disease.
