A MAJORETTES group is hosting a hometown event to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Blackburn Onyx, a voluntary organisation, has organised a dance competition at Audley Sports centre in Blackburn on July 2.
Nine teams from Liverpool, Wales and Leeds are expected to compete in front of hundreds of spectators.
The founder and troupe principal, Mandy Hartley, said: “By holding an event in our hometown dancer’s families and friends, who are not able to travel to watch them compete, will have the opportunity to come and support them.
“We have many members who have been with us for the majority of these years and have grown up together."
“Some of our senior girls have been with us since we started and are now bringing their own children to dance.”
The troupe train three times a week at Green Lane community centre and rely on fundraising to keep the team going. The wristbanded event, which has a small charge, will run from 10am to 5pm.
