THE first two Northern outlets of budget airline easyJet’s coffee shop offshoot are set to land in Blackburn and Burnley this summer.

So far the chain has three permanent locations in London’s swish Covent Garden and Leicester Square and South Coast seaside resort Hastings.

The first of the new sites, in Blackburn’s King William Street opposite the town hall and The Mall, is due to open this week before the Bank Holiday weekend.

The next two on easyCoffee’s runway are in Palma airport in the Mediterranean resort of Majorca and Burnley town centre.

The firm, set up a year ago by easyGroup the holding company for the airline founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, aims to provide value coffee aimed at a young and family market.

The Blackburn shop is in premises formerly used by The Greedy Fox cafe and which has been empty for more than year.

It is 600 square feet, will employ seven full-time and three part-time staff seating 30 customers inside and 12 outside. It will the chain’s biggest permanent outlet.

Nathan Lowry, easyCoffee chief executive, said:: “We are finally heading to the North of England to the wonderful Lancashire town of Blackburn.

“We are just so chuffed to have found the right location with plenty of seating and free wifi, the right team and cannot wait to be apart of the high street.

“We chose Blackburn because of its young population, a great partner to run it, and the fact the town is undergoing something of a renaissance.

“The location in the town centre and near the college is ideal for young customers and mums with families as there will be space for prams.

“We and our partner in East Lancashire have identified another site in a former bank in Burnley town centre.

“Work on that location on St James’s Street will start in two weeks time so we can open in late June/early July.”

Cllr Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen regeneration boss, said: “This is am exciting, high-flying new coffee brand choosing Blackburn for its first outlet outside the South-East of England.

“It is another mark of the town’s growing national recognition.”

Cllr Mark Townsend, leader of Burnley Council said: “This it great news. It offer more choice as well as new jobs.”

Mr Lowry added: “I am personally looking forward to meeting the locals and giving them a great product at a great price.”

easyCoffee’s fresh bean coffee is priced from £1 for filter based coffee and from £1.50 for milk based coffee.
