IMAGES of a long-forgotten way life in Blackburn have gone on display alongside student’s latest work.

Pictures taken by Wally Talbot, who used to work for the Lancashire Telegraph, and his son Howard are being put on show at the Clog and Billycock pub.

The photographers worked in the area from the 1930s through to the 1990s and a selection of their pictures from mainly between 1950 and 1969 are being shown.

The art, design and photography students from the University Centre at Blackburn College have been involved in archiving the collection ready for the exhibition which forms part of their art and design degree show.

The Talbot Archive contains thousands of pictures.

Ribble Valley Inns, which runs the pub, is owned by the Northcote Leisure Group and has lent its support to the students.

John Harrison, interim dean at the university centre, said: “The images in the archive chart a long-forgotten life in Blackburn and the students have found this fascinating.

“Not only have the students been involved in archiving the photography but also curating pieces that form part of artwork installed at the Clog and Billycock.

“The project is just the sort of project that we love to get involved with and that students love getting involved with too.

“It mirrors the type of projects that students work on once they graduate as large firms commission designers and agencies for different purposes.

“It’s great to see such a variety of work on offer but also great for students to see the work that they have ploughed time and effort into being not only recognised and rewarded but also exhibited in public spaces.”

Students have also been involved in photographing dishes from the pub’s new menu.
