A MAJOR event to celebrate the talents of young entrepreneurs is coming to Blackburn.

The fast-growing Teenage Market initiative will be in the town centre next month.

It will be set up on Town Hall Street on Saturday, May 6, and Sunday, May 7, as part of The National Festival of Making.

It will offer a range of free stalls for young traders and performers to showcase their creative products and talents.

A similar event in Burnley town centre last month was judged a success.

The Teenage Market is a nationwide initiative set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom Barratt in Stockport to transform town and city centres with the creativity of young people.

Supporters include businessman Theo Paphitis, designer Wayne Hemingway and retail guru Mary Portas.

The May event is being organised by The Teenage Market with Blackburn’s Business Improvement District.

To get involved young would-be participants should create a trader or performer profile on the Teenage Market website www.theteenagemarket.co.uk.

Joe Barratt said “The Teenage Market really is the key to identifying a new generation of market traders by making young people an active part of our town centres.”

Harriet Roberts, manager of the Blackburn BID, said “We are excited to be working with The Teenage Market and bringing them to town during the Festival of Making.
