A FRAUDSTER who took a vehicle without the owner’s consent has been jailed for 12 weeks.

Magistrates heard how Stephen James Essex, 34, took a Vauxhall Corsa from an address in Blackburn without the consent of the owner on October 12.

The court heard how on the same day Essex, of Whalley Street in Burnley, assisted in the retention, removal, disposal or realisation of a debit card belonging to a man in Blackburn for the benefit of buying goods for himself.

Magistrates were told he then fraudulently used the stolen debit card in Burnley.

Essex pleaded guilty to all three offences when he appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court.

A court spokesman said: “He was committed to prison for 12 weeks because the offence is so serious because he is a persistent offender, has a history of non compliance with court orders and he caused loss to victim.”
