He also threw his mug at police after his grandma brought him a cup of tea in a bid to calm him down.

Preston Crown Court heard Titterington, who has significant mental health problems, was refusing to co-operate with officers who came to the house to arrest him on October 14 and 17 last year.

On seeing the police, Titterington climbed out of a window onto the porch roof, where he said would stay for a month if he needed to.

He shouted: “If anyone comes near me I’ll bite them, and not just a little bite. I’ll bite their nose off.”

Armed with a bow saw and a joiner’s clamp, Titterington threatened police and refused to engage with officers, negotiators and family members who tried to talk him down.

Officers eventually left the scene after an hour on October 14 and four hours on October 17, leaving Tittering to leave the roof in his own time.

He was arrested at Royal Blackburn Hospital on October 19 when he admitted himself asking to be sectioned.

Titterington, of Cleveleys Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to two counts of affray and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.

He also admitted criminal damage after smashing up a car and climbing on its roof in the early hours of September 20.

The court heard he was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and has psychosis which has been aggravated by taking Spice in prison.

Judge Andrew Woolman, sentencing, said: “These are all offences of a similar type and show disturbed and disturbing behaviour on your part.

“You knew you needed help. You went to the hospital yourself on October 19, apparently to get yourself sectioned.

“You continued to not co-operate with the police, and refused to be interviewed.

“There has to come a time when you take charge of your own life. For the moment that will have to be in prison.”

Judge Woolman was sentenced to Titterington two years in prison.
