A FAMILY is trying to raise £30,000 to fund life-changing surgery for ‘an absolutely fantastic’ young boy.

Samuel Hosker, from Blackburn, suffers from Cerebral Palsy and has been told he will be wheelchair bound within two years if he doesn’t get an important operation.

His parents have now started raising money for the eight-year-old to have the operation which is not available on the NHS.

His mother, Michelle Hosker, said the surgery is what the youngster wants but he is nervous about having the operation.

The 38-year-old said: “He’s just an absolutely fantastic young boy.

“He get’s so tired at the moment, the surgery would take the pressure of his muscles.

“We’re hoping for a miracle and that he’ll be able to walk without a frame, but the surgery will help him get around better regardless, and it will keep him out of a wheelchair.

“He’s just so excited about it, he’s so flattered that all this fundraising is going on for him.

“He’s a bit apprehensive about the surgery and he’s a bit scared of going to hospital, but it’s what he wants.”

So far more than £2,200 has been raised.

The Spinal Dorsal Rhizotomy operation would be carried out at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool and would cost £21,000 in private medical bills.

He would then need a series of intense physiotherapy sessions to help him recover.

Alongside his mum and dad, Keiron, the St Peters RC Primary School pupil has three siblings, who described Samuel as a ‘character.’

Mrs Hosker said: “He’s like an old man in a little boys body, he just loves the 1950s and Elvis Presley.

“When it was his birthday he got everything we could possibly think of to do with Elvis.

“He’s a real character, loads of fun to be around. He’s got such a great sense of humour.

“He gets on with everyone, he’s just such a popular little boy.”

Samuel was born three months prematurely and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when he was 10-months-old.

The first fundraising event has been organised by his sister Charlie, 17, who will be taking part in a sponsored sky dive with her friends on Sunday, April 2.
