A jury had been deliberating over the charges, which included three counts of rape and eight allegations of indecent assault, for more than seven hours before Judge Philip Parry discharged them.

The prosecution will now decide whether or not to seek a re-trial.

Eastwood, of Stopes Brow in Blackburn, will have to return to the court for a mention and plea direction hearing on February 24.

The alleged offences were said to have taken place between March 2005 and March 2010.
