Pickup, 43, of Branch Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to a door belonging to Roy Pickup and possessing an illegal Frontier .22 Swift Bulleted cartridge.

He was made subject to a community order with five days’ rehabilitation and a curfew for eight weeks between 9pm and 5am and ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said police were contacted by Mr Pickup who said his son had discharged a firearm in the house.

When officers searched the house they found four air rifles and the expanding bullet.

Pickup told police he had found the bullet some years earlier and kept hold of it.

“He said he didn’t possess a firearm that would fire the bullet,” said Mrs White.

Gareth Price, defending, said Pickup had a difficult relationship with his father and the two had argued on the day.

“He was cleaning his air rifle and let off two shots out of frustration,” said Mr Price.
