A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in her Blackburn home.


Detectives said the woman’s death was being treated as ‘unexplained’.


The 45-year-old woman, who has not been named, was found unresponsive by paramedics in a detached house in Warrenside Close at around 2.30pm on Wednesday.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands the woman’s body was found in an upstairs bedroom.


On Thursday, detectives appealed for information to find a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the death.


The 35-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of murder in Blackpool and was still in custody last night. He was set to be further quizzed by detectives today.


A post-mortem examination carried out on Thursday proved inconclusive, police said. 


Further tests are still being carried out to establish the exact cause of her death. 


Police have not disclosed the exact nature of the woman’s injuries.


A police spokesman confirmed the woman has been formally identified and next of kin have been informed.


A police spokesman said: “At about 2.30pm on Wednesday police were contacted by the ambulance service to a report of a sudden death at a house on Warrenside Close.


“On arrival officers found the body of a 45-year-old woman who lived at the address. She was pronounced dead at the scene.


“Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and further enquiries are being carried out to try to establish an exact cause of death.


“Detectives launched an investigation and following a successful appeal to trace a 35-year-old man from Blackburn they arrested him in connection with the death.
“He is currently in custody.”


Residents in the quiet street have spoken of their shock at the woman’s death.


Next door neighbour Pat Arrowsmith said: “She was a lady who kept herself to herself and it’s all very sad really.”


The woman is understood to have lived in the area for 20 years and has at least one daughter, who is away at university.
