AN appeal has been launched for information after a man was assaulted and had his car keys stolen in Blackburn, police said.

The incident happened at around 8pm on Christmas Eve at the Essar petrol station in Audley Range when a 58-year-old man was approached by two Asian males.

Officers said they engaged the victim in conversation and then assaulted him by punching and kicking him and also stole his car keys.

The victim suffered swelling, soreness and grazing to his head and face, police said.

The offenders are both described as Asian, aged 17 to 18-years-old and approximately 5’8”.

One thief was described as slim and wearing dark clothing and the other was medium build and was wearing a light coloured jacket.

DS Melissa Kelly, of Blackburn CID, said: “We are working to identify the men responsible for this attack and we need anyone with information that could help us to come forward.

"We know that a number of people were on foot and in vehicles at the time, some of which went to the victims aid and would appeal to those people to contact us.
