A MOTHER whose four-year-old girl survived being hurled from the bonnet of a car before being crushed under its wheels has spoken of her miraculous recovery.

Doctors at Alder Hey Children's Hospital had told Carla Milligan to expect the worst when her daughter Isobelle, then three, suffered head injuries, a bruised lung and a small bleed to her liver in the horror ordeal.

Isobelle was airlifted to Alder Hey following the crash close to Blackburn Rover's Ewood Park on January 29 and endured a six-hour operation before time in critical care.

Now to thank the doctors and paramedics, Mrs Milligan and husband Nathan are helping Isobelle host a fundraiser at Ivy Street Community Centre for Alder Hey and the North West Air Ambulance Service.

Mrs Milligan, 25, said: "Isobelle is now doing alright. The scar lines from her eye brow to the back of her head are improving. She still goes to Alder Hey for that but they are starting to fade a bit more.

"The main thing now is the psychological damage. She has post traumatic stress disorder and is seeing a psychiatrist. She has nightmares and she talks about it a lot. She has behavioural problems when she thinks about it.

"But we're just glad to still have her with us.

"When we arrived at Alder Hey they prepared us for the worst because of the crash and the injuries. She was in surgery for six hours. We could see her nerves and all her flesh on one side had come off. They didn't think they could save the nerves in her face. Then she was in critical care for her torn liver and bruised lungs.

"The doctors and nurses were absolutely fantastic when we were there.

"The staff were so professional but at the same time they were a counsellor, a friend and a shoulder to cry on.

"We can't do much more than say thank you for saving our daughter's life but if we can raise a bit of money then that would be fantastic."

Mrs Milligan, of Bolton Road, Blackburn, said they hope to raise over £1,000 so her daughter will get her name on a plaque at Alder Hey.

Isobelle, who is set to start St Peter's R C Primary School in Blackburn in September, has already raised around £500 by doing a fundraiser at her nursery, Peekaboo Day Care in Darwen.

Isobelle's Fundraiser will take place from 1pm to 4pm on September 4. There will be a bouncy castle, arts and crafts, face painting, a tombola, children's characters, food and drinks and a raffle.
