A WOMAN has been arrested after a man was stabbed in Blackburn.

Police were called to the scene in Infirmary Street on Friday and officers said it is being treated as an isolated incident.

The 35-year-old victim, who is from the town, suffered a single stab wound to the chest.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital at around 3pm but was discharged later the same day.

A 42-year-old woman, who is also from Blackburn, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and grievous bodily harm.

She has been released on bail until September 13.

Residents in the area have become concerned about their safety following the incident.

An Infirmary Street resident said: “I saw lots of police vans and cars appear down the road at different times of the day.

“It’s very worrying to see this sort of behaviour, I wouldn’t like to have my children playing outside in the street when there’s the need for this amount of police.

“It’s a shame that the neighbourhood is in this way.”

Cllr Jamie Groves, representative for Ewood ward, said: “This is a terrible incident and we at the council are quite happy to work with community groups to try and help avoid these things happening in the future.

“This is an isolated incident so I don’t think there is a threat to anyone’s safety and I’m sure the police with thoroughly investigate.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called to Infirmary Street in Blackburn at around 3pm on August 12 to reports that a 35-year-old man had suffered a stab wound to the chest.

“He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital by police officers.

“He was later discharged the same day.

“A 42-year-old woman from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of assault and grievous bodily harm. She has been released on bail until September 13.”
