STUDENTS from a Darwen school have been commissioned by a major shredding company to do its marketing and promotion.

Darwen Aldridge Enterprise Studio students Emma Langton, James Godfrey, Reece Noblett, Luke Grady, Anthony Angel and Josh Cruickshank were chosen to create two promotional videos for Blackburn-based Lancashire Shredding.

They impressed the staff at a Hive Business Awards event held at the school and both videos will be broadcast in the next couple of weeks on YouTube. One will also go on the Lancashire Shredding website.

Shane Siggins, business manager at Lancashire Shredding, said that the students were extremely talented and their knowledge and enthusiasm really caught his eye.

He said: “These students are extremely proactive and we have been very impressed with their knowledge about editing.

“They showed us a video they had made promoting life at the school and from this we could see how they had got out there and really engaged with the customer.

“From what I’ve seen so far I think they’re doing to really help us promote ourselves and it’s been a pleasure working with them.

“It’s a great school that gets kids involved with businesses at an early stage and this is very beneficial for them beyond their GCSEs.”

One of the videos the students have made will be comical, communicating how boring and expensive it can be using an office shredder.

The other will be a more serious corporate video looking into exactly what the company does and how they deal with confidential documents.

The school has been heavily involved in entrepreneurship and creative media since its inception with students launching their own business venture Made in Darwen last year which prints mugs and T-shirts using customers’ own photos or student photography and art.

Head teacher Ruth Bradbury said she was delighted with the students’ achievement.

She said: “At the studio, we pride ourselves on preparing young people for careers and getting them academic qualifications, and this really pays dividends for them when they are applying for jobs or university.

“This project is a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop their creative digital skills, to learn first-hand about the world of business, and to support the business community.

“I am incredibly proud of the way that these young people have conducted themselves so professionally.”
