A MAN who came off his motorbike after crashing into a fence in Turton and was airlifted to hospital.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward with information following the incident at the weekend.

Sgt Mick Young, of Blackburn Road Policing, said the just before 3pm on Saturday a 31-year-old was riding his Yamaha TTR 250 with a group of friends in Broadhead Road just before 3pm on Saturday.

He said: “The man, who was travelling from Blackburn towards Edgworth, approached a right-hand bend and took action to avoid a saloon car, possibly a silver Mazda, travelling in the opposite direction.

“He lost control of his bike and fell and collided with a wooden fence.

“The motorcyclist, a man from Blackburn, was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital with a leg injury which is not thought to be life-threatening.

“This incident has left the motorcycle rider with a serious injury and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened, and to the driver of the car involved, to get in touch.”

The road, which links Darwen and Edgworth, was the scene ofbeen the place for a series of incidents last year, including an accident near the White Horse pub in August in which an 85-year-old woman diedwas killed.

A man was also airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital after plummeting down a 20-foot embankment in May 2015.

At the time, Rob Birtwistle, of Blackburn fire station, said all drivers must be careful when negotiating country roads.
