A BLACKBURN school has hailed its latest GCSE results as a fitting tribute for its 30th anniversary.

At its annual awards evening, St Bede’s RC High School welcomed former pupils back through its doors to celebrate their success over the last five years.

The most recent Year 11 cohort returned to the Green Lane school to receive their GCSE certificates and be given a range of awards.

Among the awards handed out were the Hatton Trophy for Attainment which was given to Declan Heighway, Knights of St Columba Award for Outstanding Progress received by Ewan Suddick and the Christopher Bradshaw Award for Sporting Achievement given to Amber Charnley.

Head Des Callaghan said: “I have great pride in you, our pupils, for your achievements, in particular the outstanding progress you have made. The school exists to develop mature, thoughtful, resilient qualified young men and women within the context of the Catholic tradition.

“Your achievements have made a fitting tribute to the 30th anniversary of the school opening and I hope that you carry with you the visions, values and ethos of St Bede’s.”

Other awards handed out included the Leech Trophy for Endeavour (Declan Heighway), the Hatton Trophy for Attainment (Ellie Pearce) and the Dean Rylands Award for the Person who Represents School Ethos (Ebony Harrison).

Martha Gallagher received the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Matthew Melia was given the Ted Cooper Award for Sportsmanship and James Lilley received the Moran Trophy for Consideration to Others.
