They have gained the support of a number of organisations that are generously donating money and presents.

They include David Nestor of First 4 Print Finishing and Darwen-based Laura Hartley Recruitment.

But they need more donations, which is where the borough’s generous folk can help.

Sarah De Nurtcheylo, from the charity, said: “We are urging people to please buy an extra present this year, drop it off at the ‘Ask Me’ point in Blackburn Mall.

“Your present may go to a child living in care, a young person living in a hostel, a homeless person who has dropped into a day centre on Christmas Day, it will make a massive difference.

“Not only will the gift be of practical use the person receiving it it will make them feel they are less isolated due to the kindness of a stranger.”

The Christmas Wishes appeal will accept toys, non-perishable food, clothes and toiletries.

Sams is well known for being active in the community and developing new projects to support local people in need.

In leading the Christmas Wishes initiative they are further cementing their reputation as a community group supporting people in real need.

If you are an organisation and wish to donate an extra present this year, please phone Sarah De Nurtcheylo at Charities@SAMS on 01254 291278.
