A FORMER pub in Blackburn could be transformed into a children’s nursery which will provide full-time jobs in the area.

Amir Khan, owner of Peekaboo Daycare Centre in Darwen, has submitted plans to Blackburn and Darwen Borough Council to change The Cascade Building in Shadsworth Road into a nursery for under five-year-olds.

The proposed plans include multiple rooms for different age groups as well as separate staff areas and changing the outdoor area to a playground.

There will be outdoor equipment available ranging from small children’s bikes, sand and water pits.

As well as toys the proposed plans include vegetation to be planted outside to help children learn more about nature.

The potential nursery would create six full-time jobs and a further four part time roles and would be open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 6.30pm. It would be closed on weekends and bank holidays.

The capacity of the nursery is unclear as Mr Khan was unavailable to comment.

There would also potentially be six car parking spaces added with a further two motorcycle spaces, one disability space, up to four cycle spaces and six drop off spaces will be available at the nursery.

In a letter to the council, a spokesman said: “There shouldn’t be any noise disturbance created by the proposal.

“The children will only use the outdoor playground at short intervals during the day which will be supervised at all times.

“The outdoor perimeter of the property is to be securely fenced off, as will the parking and vehicle access.”

Mr Khan previously applied to build a new centre in Darwen to replace an empty former pub but it was rejected by the borough council.

The nursery owner vowed to appeal the decision after he bought the building in the summer.
