Blackburn’s magistrates heard the attacker was “off his face” and he later admitted drinking “fish bowls” in the Zy Bar on Mincing Lane throughout the morning.
Richardson was described as a binge drinker who would have carried on drinking until he fell over.
He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months with a six-month alcohol treatment requirement, fined £60 and ordered to pay £60 compensation to Mr Maxwell, £150 criminal court charge and £60 victim surcharge.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Mr Maxwell, a health care worker, was walking past the Postal Order pub on Darwen Street when he saw two males who appeared to be drunk.
She said: “The next thing he knew he felt pain to his shoulder and chest and realised he’d been kicked.”
