BLACKBURN motorists face another weekend of traffic chaos as National Grid engineers close Grimshaw Park between the town centre and Haslingden Road for two days.

Its engineers will be carrying out resurfacing work on the section further up from the Town Moor Retail Park on Saturday and Sunday.

It takes place as they near completion of their work to replace a short section of old gas main with modern plastic pipe.

The road will close at the junction of Grimshaw Park roundabout with Haslingden Road .

The work will take place during school summer holidays when traffic is at its lightest.

Rockcliffe Street will be closed at the junction of the mini roundabout and traffic will be diverted via Robert Street and Mosley Street.

The remaining three arms of the mini roundabout will be under three way traffic signals.

Buses and heavy lorries will not be able to negotiate the left and right turns to and from Haslingden Road onto Grimshaw Park .

Blackburn with Darwen council highways boss, Cllr Phil Riley, said: “We have worked with National Grid so disruption is kept to a minimum.”

National Grid contract manager Stephen Murray said: “People in the Blackburn area enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply and our job is to make sure it stays that way .”

Mr Murray added: “We’ve been grateful for the patience local people have shown during our work and we hope that they will bear with us just a little while longer while we resurface the road, ahead of reopening it fully to traffic.

“We’ve worked closely with Blackburn Council in planning the work and are grateful for the help they have given us.”
