LIFE in Blackburn over the last 100 years, filmed by cine enthusiasts of the day, has been collated into a new DVD.

Archive footage of the town in a bygone time, reveals many of the town’s red letter days, such as the Queen’s visit in 1955 which brought all the town on to the streets and the demolition of the market hall clock tower, as the old town centre was swept away in the 1960s.

Blackburn:The Way We Were, shows workers and families going about their daily lives and jobs and some of the town’s old buildings, which are no more.

Other highlights include the triumphant return of Blackburn Rovers with the FA Cup in 1928 and one of the last Easter fairs held on the old Market Place – and they all use eyewitness reports taken from the archives of the Northern Daily Telegraph and the Blackburn Herald.

The films will bring memories flooding back for those who remember Blackburn of old – and copies are available to readers.

You can buy a copy of Blackburn: The Way We Were, priced at £15.50, from the Lancashire Telegraph offices, here in High Street, or by telephoning 0845 313 9463. Purchasers will also receive a second DVD – The Way We Were in the 1950s.
