FIREFIGHTERS in Blackburn have praised the occupant of a house for preventing a kitchen fire from spreading further.
Fire crews were called to an address in Newchurch Close at 5.30pm on Monday.
Crew manager Don Brady said: “On arrival crews were met with a heavily smoke-logged kitchen.

“Two breathing apparatus crews were deployed and removed the burning utensils containing food off the cooker, and isolated the electric. Ventilation fans were used to clear the building of smoke. None of the occupants sustained any injuries.
“The quick thinking of the occupant in shutting the kitchen door prevented further damage throughout the property. The smoke alarm in the property gave an early warning of the fire.”
Mr Brady continued: “Smoke alarms save lives. You are more than twice as likely to die in a fire at home if you haven’t got one.”
