A BLACKBURN man has been jailed for six months after attempting to use a counterfeit £20 note at a Cheshire supermarket.

Wesley Smith, aged 37, of Worcester Road, was found guilty following a trial at Warrington Crown Court of attempting to use the fake note at an Asda store in the town.

The court heard how Smith, went to the store and passed a note that staff immediately recognised to be a fake.

Recorder David Williams said: “Passing forged currency is a serious offence because it could lead to a total lack of trust in money being handed over.
