BACUP’S opera star Sean Ruane is making a guest appearance at the Last Night of the Proms in Blackburn Cathedral on Saturday.

Sean, one of the rising stars of the musical world, will sing a selection of arias before taking part in the traditional favourite, Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem. The tenor will be accompanied by the Blackburn Cathedral choirs for the hymn with words written by William Blake.

While opera remains at the heart of his work, Sean has become the voice of many of the national sporting events and sang at the Ashes for the last four series.

He has also sung ahead of England football internationals, and the Irish Rugby Six Nations.

Saturday’s concert will also include the Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein and Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 by Elgar.

The Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by cathedral musical director Samuel Hudson.
