THE starting gun has been fired on Blackburn College’s art and design degree show.

Darwen student Lee Wareing, who specialises in stencilling, has spray-painted the show’s logo on the side of the college’s Old Motor Vehicle Building to promote the month-long exhibition.

Mr Wareing, 37, has also used paint guns to complete a life-size human stencil painting of his whole class ahead of the show, which launched last night.

He lined up his pals - Krystyna Rodowicz, Angela Hoyland, Jinxy Rose, Jodie Dee Webb, Holly Riding, Joanna Sperryn-Jones and Heather Sweetto - to create an eye-catching, multi-coloured outline.

An army of volunteers shot paint through water pistols to create the stunning piece.

Mr Wareing, who is in the third year of his BA Hons Fine Art (Integrated Media) Course, will be among the students showing visitors various works of art around the campus for the next two-and-half weeks.

A college spokesman said: “It’s a chance to meet University Centre graduates, alumni and staff and check out students’ artwork. This year’s show promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

“Blackburn College’s Creative Arts students have commandeered their old Motor Vehicle workshops before the wrecking balls move in - and have created what promises to be their most impressive show to date.

“The Art and Design degree show has always provided a forum for top creative businesses to reach out to new talent and future employees – many University Centre graduates meet their future employers through the show.”

For creative businesses, the show offers a first-hand glimpse of the creative talent available in East Lancashire.

Mr Wareing said his work had been ‘three years in the making’.

The art and design degree show opens today at 6pm, and runs until June 5.
