PARENTS in Blackburn with Darwen are being asked for their views about teenagers and booze.

They are being asked by the council about their attitude to letting children drink alcohol.

The borough has launched a survey to explore parents’ beliefs around alcohol as it prepares a public health campaign on drinking and young people.

It asked mums and dads questions about what age they let their children drink and where and when they allow them to drink.

The survey also asks parents why they think teenagers should be allowed to drink alcohol, whether they believe the home is a safe environment or whether they can teach about responsible drinking.

It includes sample health campaigns around the effects of booze for parents to comment on.

There is evidence that drinking underage can affect development and encourage heavier drinking in later life.

The results of the survey will be used to help develop public health messages about teen drinking.

Parents of children aged 12 to 17 are being asked to take part in the survey.

Those who do so will be given the option of leaving their contact details and being entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Mall voucher.

Alternatively surveys can be completed anonymously.
