A BLACKBURN charity says it has raised about £5,000 to help a Feniscowles girl who suffers from a rare disorder.

Al-Imdaad Foundation UK, based in Audley Range, is planning to buy 11-year-old Enola Halleron a specially-adapted vehicle with a side chair lift, but must raise £35,000.

The St Paul’s RC Primary School pupil, who has the skeletal growth disorder morquio (MPS), was hoping to have her new vehicle for when she starts secondary school in September.

The appeal was launched six months ago, and charity director Abdussamad Mulla said he is determined to reach the target.

He added: “We’ve had a really good response, not just from the UK but from around the world as well.

“It’s a fantastic cause and we are still aiming to raise all the money. We want to do as much as we can.”

The charity is set to launch a new internet radio station this weekend, and will hope to boost support by inviting Enola on the show.

Al-Imdaad started fundraising for the youngster after bosses met her family at an event hosted by former Blackburn mayor, Cllr Salim Mulla, last year.

They were touched by her story and promised to provide long-term support for her, including a major billboard campaign to promote the appeal.

Enola, who is 97cm (3ft, 2ins) tall, will never grow to more than a metre, and still wears the same clothes she did when she was three. There is no cure for the disorder, which affects only 105 people in the UK.

Enola’s mum, Donna, is hoping to buy a mobility car with the cash, which would be able to carry Enola in her wheelchair.

She added: “There will come a time when she won’t be able to get out of her wheelchair and I want to give her the most normality possible.

“I have got to think ahead and include Enola’s future needs.”
