POLICE have stepped up patrols in a Blackburn park after reports that a man tried to kiss a young girl.

Officers said they had been made aware of two incidents of girls being approached in Corporation Park (below) in the last 10 days.

The first incident happened on December 13 between 5.15pm and 5.45pm, and the second took place on December 18 at around 4.10pm.

On both occasions a man approached two young girls asking for directions. He then attempted to grab their arms and on one occasion tried to kiss one of the girls.

The man is described as Asian, around 5ft 5ins tall, and is thought to be in his late 30s with a beard. He was wearing a cap or beanie-style hat and a dark jacket.

DS Eric Halford, of Blackburn CID, said: “We are linking these two incidents based on the actions of the man, the description given and becausethat both occurred in the same area.

“Although the incidents appear relatively minor, the man’s behaviour is very concerning and we are extremely keen to identify him and speak to him as part of our enquiries. I would urge him to make contact with us as soon as possible, and if anyone else has seen anything suspicious in the area, do not hesitate to contact us.”
