MENTAL health teams who help patients that turn up at Blackburn’s emergency department have been given extra funding, following concerns from the Care Quality Commission earlier this year.

But Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental health services, has received £170,000, plus a share of a £1 million county-wide pot, to boost staff numbers.

A joint statement from the Royal Blackburn, Lancashire Care and commissioners, said: “The current mental health teams that provide services within the hospital are fully established and operate 24/7, 365 days a year, and further additional capacity and resource has been secured as part of the separate mental health resilience funding.

It went on to say: “If any further support is required beyond this, it would be arranged on a case by case basis, dependent on the patient’s individual requirements or support for acute staff.”
