CHILDREN in Blackburn with Darwen have been given high visibility vests, as part of Road Safety Week.

About 450 children were presented with vests at Masijide Noorul Islam in Audley.

Also, 150 children were given the high visibility vests at Didsbury Mosque, on Accrington Road.

Blackburn with Darwen’s road safety champion, Coun Stephanie Brookfield, visited Masijide Noorul to discuss road safety.

Coun Brookfield also visited St Francis Primary School in Feniscowles, where the council is working with the school to reprint signage and to extend yellow lines to help ensure the safety of pupils.

The activity forms part of Road Safety Week, which is the UK’s biggest road safety event, involving thousands of schools, organisations and community groups every year.

Coun Brookfield said: "It is fantastic that so many children have been able to receive high visibility vests, and this is part of the work we are carrying out to ensure our young people are kept safe in our community.

"Everyone has a responsibility to keep our roads safe, and it is important to ensure that alongside activity like this, we carry on getting the message out for drivers to think and for pedestrians especially children to keep safe."
