A 54-YEAR-OLD man called police and told them he was going to hang himself in Witton Park where children from a nearby school would be able to see him.

Blackburn magistrates heard Lance Cook had appeared before the same court the day before the latest incident for similar offences and was on police bail for making malicious calls to the police.

Cook, of Springbank Terrace, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to wasting police time and resisting an officer. He was made subject to a curfew for six weeks between 8 pm and 6 am.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said the latest call to the police was made in the early hours of the morning and an officer was despatched to investigate. When she found Cook, who was clearly drunk, and tried to arrest him he struggled.

Cook told police he had been going through "years of hell" with Social Services and had been ringing the police because he thought they might help him.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said ook remained frustrated by his treatment by Social Services.

"When he is in drink he thinks it is a good idea to call the police and ask for their help," said Mr Taylor. "He has to accept it is a waste of police resources."
