'IDIOT’ drivers have been slammed for bad parking outside a Blackburn school which has forced children to walk on a busy main road.

Motorists near Feniscowles Primary School, in Livesey Branch Road, have been criticised by the school’s head teacher for their ‘inconsiderate’ behaviour.

And one picture, sent to the Lancashire Telegraph by a disgusted parent, shows a young girl stepping out onto the road to avoid a Vauxhall Vectra with all four wheels parked on the footpath.

One parent said: “Parents and children had to walk in the road because of this idiot.”

Elizabeth Hargreaves, the school’s head teacher, wrote to parents this week to plead with drivers to take more care.

She said: “Our parents who do walk their children to and from school have to circumnavigate cars parked on the pavement which, if they have a pram, can result in them having to walk in the road.

“Parents are blocking driveways or they are turning round in them on Livesey Branch Road but in particular on Park Farm Road and the adjoining roads.

“As you can appreciate this is extremely dangerous especially if there are adults or children walking here. It will be too late if a child is knocked down and killed all in order to save a few minutes.”

Coun Maureen Bateson, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s executive member for regeneration, said she had been contacted ‘time and time again’ by parents concerned about ‘bad and inconsiderate parking, especially around schools’.

She added: “Parking as inconsiderate as this is disgraceful and it’s putting people’s, especially children’s, lives at risk. The highways are not just for cars - there are other users.”

Coun Stephanie Brookfield, the council’s road safety champion, added: “I am sick of selfish people putting people’s safety at risk with inconsiderate parking. I will be using my role as road safety champion to highlight these issues and find ways of tackling them.”
