A SALSA club is pleading for men to come and strut their stuff at its weekly classes.

The Sweet Salsa group, which is based in Blackburn, has 23 lovely ladies but not enough men with moves to go round.

The class is run by North West Salsa Championship finalists Steve Marsden and Julia Rice, who have already set up successful Salsa groups in the Longridge and Fulwood areas.

Julia said: “We want to know why the men of Blackburn are so shy. We have a large turn-out of men in our other classes, both single and married, but we’ve had to work our men in Blackburn extra hard so that all the ladies get a dance.”

She said that although the Blackburn group is currently going through a dry spell of men, they’re hoping next week it will be raining with them.

The group meets every Thursday at Blackburn Golf Club, in Beardwood Brow, from 8pm.

And it is open to budding dancers of all ages and abilities.

The current ages range from mid 20s to late 40s and include couples, singles and those just looking for a bit of a shimmy.

Classes have seen attendance from a high court judge to road sweepers and welcome all walks of life. No previous experience is needed as the championship duo teaches first step beginners.

Julia said: “The salsa classes are a great way to socialise with others and get in a few hours of well needed exercise.”
