Dad and son attacked at Blackburn pub on New Year’s Eve

A FATHER and son were beaten up during a New Year’s Eve night out.

Neil Fearns, 54, had been for a meal with family before meeting son Kyle, 25, at the Station Hotel in Preston Old Road, Cherry Tree, Blackburn.

Following a scuffle with a group in the pub the two men, from Lower Darwen, had gone outside but were then set upon.

The unprovoked attack left Kyle, a design engineer, needing pins inserting into his leg after breaking his ankle in two places.

Neil said: “It was just after midnight because we had done the countdown and celebrated the start of the new year.

“My son-in-law was threatened inside the pub for no apparent reason and I went to check that everything was OK outside.

“As I turned to come back into the pub, I got thumped on the side of my head and hit again, ending up on the floor. It all happened so quick.”

They were taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where Kyle was operated on and his leg was put in plaster.

PC Scott Boast, from Blackburn police, said: “We are appealing for witnesses We were called to the Station pub at around 12.30am after reports of an attack on a father and son.

“Lots of people will have seen what happened because the pub was very busy.”

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Boast on 01254 353 921.

Or lets just hope that there is no 'next time' and there is no mindless violence.

Not the first time we've heard about violent disturbances at this pub. The last time we read about an incident at this establishment I seem to recall that resulted in persons being admitted to hospital with serious injury's too! Is it not about time questions were asked about the suitability of the licencee or indeed the future suitability of the premises licence?

i very much doubt it was unprovoked, come on lets get real. the son in law probably mouthed off or upset somebody in some way and doesn't want to upset his father in law... its a harsh world out there but lets be honest unprovoked attacks are few and far between. i'm not for one minute condoning the attack but there's no smoke without fire.

Only jokin, son-inlaw is a sound lad. Unlike d complete tossers who selfishly attacked a father and son on a night out. These r part of d reasons why Blackburn as a whole is dyin venue for a night out. Idiots like this r keepin people in and killin d local pubs off.

We know this family well, and they are lovely and very well respected. When pubs like this are letting young lads in, this is unfortunately going to be the result! No wonder decent people are keeping away from pubs in Blackburn these days :(
Just hope they find them .... and punish them properly!!
