'Return war medals' plea to Blackburn burglars
11:14am Friday 21st December 2012 in Blackburn
A PENSIONER is urging the burglars who raided his home and stole his father’s Second World War medals to give them back.
The 74-year-old, who lives in Cherryclough Way, in the Livesey area of Blackburn, returned home at teatime on Monday to discover parts of his house had been ransacked.
The grandfather-of-two said: “I just hope who ever broke into my house will search their soul and return my father’s medals.
“The 50 years’ of jewellery collected by my wife can be replaced at a cost, but those medals have sentimental value.”
Thieves stole five service medals, including an African Star and a Burma Star, as well as thousands of pounds of jewellery, and a camera.
DI Paul Langley, who heads up the Eastern division Target Team, said: “I urge anyone who was in the Cherryclough Way area between noon and 6pm on Monday and noticed anything suspicious to come forward.”
Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101.
