£40m transport project heads to Ewood
10:00am Wednesday 19th December 2012 in Blackburn
PLANNING for the Ewood section of the Pennine Reach project is in the process of being renewed by the council.
The plans will be displayed at Ewood Park until Monday.
The £40m project will bring major improvements to public transport between Accrington and Blackburn and Darwen, and is a joint scheme between Blackburn with Darwen Council and Lancashire County Council, the highway authority for Hyndburn.
The project will bring new bus stations for both Accrington and Blackburn.
It will also see the introduction of new buses, bus stops being equipped with live public transport information and higher frequency of services, bus priority in congested areas and at traffic signals.
Aa smart card ticketing system and better security for passengers and staff is also due to be introduced.
The Ewood section of the project has been amended following a major consultation with residents and businesses.
