Blackburn charity offers advice on buying a funeral

First published in Blackburn

A BLACKBURN charity is urging consumers to ask for a written quote when buying funeral services to ensure they do not get caught out by hidden charges.

Age UK Blackburn with Darwen has issued the warning as the cost to bury a loved one increases year upon year.

Elaine Jennings, of income generation at Age UK Blackburn with Darwen, said: “Before purchasing a funeral, always ask for a written quote which outlines all the costs. Make sure that you clarify upfront exactly what is included in the price, and that it covers all the services you require.

“A cheap offer at first sight can turn out rather more expensive if you have to pay extra for many additional items.”

when my mum died a few years ago we did ask as i wanted to know .
we noticed how uncomfortable this made the funeral director,we also asked what and how they would be doing to our beautiful mum as we wanted her in death to be treated with dignity.
we were given a breakdown and explanation, but they didnt seem happy,
it wasnt that we didnt trust them, just as a family we needed answers of a situation we didnt understand.
they did a fine job,but it showed us the secret world of undertakers.
