DRUG dealers who were caught in the act by police rammed a police car and drove at an officer standing in the street.

The two men, described as ‘prolific’ drug dealers, have been jailed for a total of six years after they were seen trying to deal from a car on Monmouth Road.

Idnan Khaliq, 24, of Lincoln Road, Blackburn and Salman Choudry, 20, of Whitendale Crescent, Blackburn, drove off when they realised they had been seen drug dealing.

When making off, they rammed a police car and drove at a police officer before crashing into a garden fence. Officers then carried out a search of the car and their home addresses where they discovered heroin and cash.

The two men appeared at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin and cocaine. Khaliq was sentenced to three years imprisonment and Choudry was given three years six months. He was also banned from driving for two years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.

DI Mark Winstanley said: “Both Khaliq and Choudry are prolific drug dealers who were responsible for supplying heroin and cocaine on the streets of East Lancashire.

“Choudry put people’s lives at risk by driving dangerously through the streets of Blackburn - narrowly missing an officer in attempt to escape. Drug dealing brings misery and upset to our communities and I hope this sends a warning to offenders that they will be actively targeted and brought to justice.”

Anyone with information about drugs in their community can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
