A 25-YEAR-OLD woman has appeared in court for breaching an anti-social behaviour order on the day it was reported in the Lancashire telegraph.

Blackburn magistrates heard Samantha Jones sent a text message to one of her neighbours who featured in the newspaper article demanding to know what she had said to reporters.

The court heard that under the terms of the order Jones was prohibited from having any contact with Samantha Kelly and a number of other neighbours on the St Margaret’s Way housing estate, Audley, Blackburn.

Jones pleaded guilty to breach of the ASBO and breach of bail conditions in respect of a denied racially aggravated public order offence.

She was fined £75 with £105 costs which was lodged against time spent in custody.

The court heard the order had been made at Hyndburn Magistrates Court but Jones had not been present. She was subsequently served with the order.

Under the terms of the two year order she is banned from inciting others to act in an anti-social manner.

She must not cause harassment, stress or alarm by using threatening or racial language.

She is banned from playing music at a volume which could be heard outside her home and must not be drunk or illegally intoxicated in public.

She is also prohibited from contacting neighbours.

Michael Blacklidge, defending, said when the story about the ASBO appeared on the front page of the Lancashire Telegraph, Jones had been shown a copy and taunted about it.

“People were effectively rubbing her nose in it,” said Mr Blacklidge.

“She bought a copy to see what people were saying about her and accepts that she then sent some text messages because she was angry.

“The simple solution to the mess she has got herself into would be for her to move house but that is not as easy as it sounds,” said Mr Blacklidge.
