Alcohol Awareness Week talks in Blackburn

PEOPLE in East Lancashire are being encouraged to discuss their drinking habits during Alcohol Awareness Week.

The campaign, organised by Alcohol Concern and supported by Blackburn with Darwen Council and the Care Trust Plus, is called ‘It’s time to talk about drinking’.

It recognises that talking about drinking is something the British do but questions whether we are having the right kind of conversations.

During the week Blackburn with Darwen’s Alcohol and Drug Service on Regent Street, Blackburn, will be providing information to visitors about the dangers of alcohol abuse.

A series of awareness events will take place during the week including an alcohol support day on Friday at the Women’s Centre on Strawberry Bank, Blackburn.

It will run from 1pm until 3pm.

Director of public health for Blackburn with Darwen, Dominic Harrison, said: “Unfortunately the social problems alcohol causes are all around us, as well as the massive health impacts it can have.”

well i have a 10 can a day habit.the good people and government deem it right to fund my habit,its great getting leathered everyday for free.i get my rent paid,poll tax and loads of other free stuff.i am getting a little worried now though in case they say my problem isnt a disabilty anymore as i might have to cut down to five a day.god forbid that happens i will have to find a job on the side.im having sleepless nights over this it really is affecting my good half of me liver.
mmmm i wonder if i could claim owt for that?

Am sorry but you teetotallers are going too far, you are impinging upon my Human Rights now and therefore breaking the Laws of this land. So I suggest that you all keep your meetings to yourself and do it quietly too.
Article 27 states, We all have the right to our own way of life, and to enjoy the good things that science and learning bring. Your incessant bleatings about alcohol are enough to drive a man to drink!
There are more fat people wobbling around this town than are drunkards, so I suggest that you stand outside the many supermarkets having a dig at them for a change and leave me and mine alone.
Everytime you go in a supermarket nowadays the aisles are cluttered with people gimping about on scaffolding trying to support their manifest obesity.. do you not see them?
Or is more a case that you would sooner have a dig at those so down trodden in life that their only solace is the oblivion of alcohol?
If this is the only cause that you see worth championing then I feel sad for you. Why not call for a decent working wage for people, so that their spirits are lifted beyond the demon drink. You would rally more to your cause than the morally bankrupt bible-bashing few that circle your banner at present.
