A HIGH street chain has celebrated the imminent opening of a store in East Lancashire with a community donation.

Wilko, which is to start trading in The Mall in Blackburn on September 12, presented products together worth £500 to the East Lancashire Hospice, which opened its doors in 1984.

The donation featured goods from the home and garden ranges.

Branch manager Raymond McWhinnie said: “We were delighted to donate products to East Lancashire Hospice.

“Supporting our local community is important to us and the staff work extremely hard to make the residents’ experience as comfortable as possible.

“It is a great feeling to know our donation will make a difference.”

Sharon Crymble, hospice fundraiser, said: “The team was thrilled to receive this generous donation from Wilko.

“We want to make sure we support the development and wellbeing of the people who use our service and it is wonderful we are able to refresh our facilities in time for the colder months.”
